Abstract
ABSTRACT Theoretically, the performance of a three-phase induction motor is directly proportional to its load percentage, where low-load conditions trigger the dominance of reactive magnetizing current. This study aims to evaluate the mechanical efficiency and power factor of a 20 HP TECO Induction Motor driving an Ebara pump at PT. Pertamina Hulu Rokan Field Adera. The research method was conducted through field observation and comparative data analysis across three operational conditions (Test 1/Existing, Test 2, and Test 3/Optimal). The main problem is the indication of continuous underload operation, which risks reducing system reliability. Evaluation results show that under existing conditions (Test 1), the motor experiences oversizing with a load of only 39.78%. This condition decreases efficiency to 78.00% and the power factor to 0.50 due to high fixed losses and the dominance of reactive power. Conversely, at an optimal load of 80.07% (Test 3), efficiency increases to 89.00% with a power factor of 0.85. It is concluded that the existing operation is inefficient, and it is recommended to perform motor downsizing or install a capacitor bank to improve system reliability. Keywords: Induction Motor, Underload, Mechanical Efficiency, Power Factor..
