Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the level and position of clogging in the basket strainer on the pump performance and pump suction conditions. The study was conducted experimentally using the Shimida TCP-200 pump with a clogging variation of 0%, 25% top, 25% bottom, 50% top, 50% bottom, and 75%. The observed parameters included flow discharge, pressure drop, head loss, suction pressure, NPSH Available (NPSHa), and pump noise. Each variation was tested three times. The results showed that the pressure drop value was in the range of 13.89–22.35 kPa, while the head loss was in the range of 1,424–2,292 m. The highest pressure drop and head loss values were obtained in the upper 25% clogging condition . The absolute suction pressure was in the range of 71.09–80.91 kPa, while the NPSHa value was in the range of 7,059–7,996 m. The lowest discharge was obtained at a clogging condition of 75%, which was 54.87 L/min. The pump noise value was in the range of 79.53–80.70 dB and did not show a consistent increase in clogging increase. The results showed that the level and position of clogging affected the flow characteristics and suction conditions of the pump. The evaluation of cavitation potential was carried out based on changes in NPSHa and noise as supporting parameters, as NPSHr data of the pump were not available. Keywords: Basket Strainer, Clogging, Pressure Drop, Head Loss, NPSHa, Suction Pump, Cavitation.
