Abstract

ANALISA KEGAGALAN PADA EXHAUST ENGINE VALVE G3406 CATERPILLAR UNTUK PENGGERAK POMPA MINYAK Kegagalan material merupakan hal yang sering dialami oleh suatu komponen mesin. Kerusakan dapat saja terjadi di semua bidang teknik, termasuk kerusakan pada komponen-komponen mesin dari elemen terkecil hingga komponen yang sangat vital. Katup (Valve) pada engine berfungsi untuk membuka dan menutup saluran hisap dan juga saluran buang serta menyekat tekanan tinggi akibat pembakaran. Analisis kegagalan katup buang (exhaust valve) pada engine G3406 Caterpillar diawali dengan penyetelan celah valve (adjusment valve clearance) yang terlalu kendur membuat kecepatan penutupan valve yang berlebih, meningkatkan momentum valve serta beban tarik pada saat siklus pembakaran terjadi, yang kemudian terjadi patah lelah pada area fillet radius valve dimana stress berkonsentrasi. Untuk melakukan analisis penyebab kerusakan exhaust valve, beberapa pengujian dilakukan seperti komposisi kimia, metalografi, serta pengujian kekerasan. Analisis komposisi kimia pada jenis material valve yang digunakan adalah werkstoff / grade JIS G 3101 SS 400. Dengan hasil perbandingan metalografi exhaust valve yang tidak patah (Perlit) dan exhaust valve yang patah adalah (Martensit), serta adanya peningkatan kekerasan pada material exhaust valve yang patah HRC 38,1 sedangkan pada exhaust valve yang tidak patah HRC 34,5. Kata kunci : Katup buang, Penyetelan celah valve, Patah lelah FAILURE ANALYSIS ON EXHAUST ENGINE VALVE G3406 CATERPILLAR FOR OIL PUMP DRIVER Material failure is often experienced by a machine component. Damage may occur in all areas of engineering, including damage to machine components from the smallest elements to highly vital components. The function of valves on the engine is to open and close suction and exhaust ducts, and block high pressure from combustion process. Caterpillar G3406 engine exhaust valve failure analysis begins with valve clearance adjustment that too large making the valve closure speed excessive, increasing valve momentum and tensile load during the combustion cycle, which then ensues fatigue fracture in the fillet area of the radius valve where stress concentrates. To perform this analysis of exhaust valve damage,, some tests were carried out such as chemical composition, metalography, as well as hardness testing. Chemical composition analysis on the type of valve material that used is werkstoff / grade JIS G 3101 SS 400. With the result of metalography comparison of un broken exhaust valve (Perlit) and broken exhaust valve is (Martensit), as well as increased hardness in the material exhaust valve broken HRC 38.1 while in the exhaust valve that is not broken HRC 34.5.
