Abstract
Kata Kunci: Annealing, Laju Korosi, Baja Karbon Menengah ABSTRACT Medium carbon steel is widely used as a construction material, shipping, and so on. With heat treatment not only do the mechanical properties change, but the corrosion resistance properties also change. In this research, AISI 1040 steel specimens were tested which received annealing heat treatment at temperatures of 820oC, 840oC and 860oC and were held for 10 minutes followed by cooling in the furnace. From this treatment, the structure does not change relative to the original object, namely pearlite, but there is a change in the grain size. With this treatment, all test objects were then tested for corrosion in sea water for 5 days. The corrosion rate that occurred on test objects that received heat treatment at temperatures of 820oC, 840oC and 860oC and the resulting corrosion rates were 0.07769 mm/year, 0.07950 mm/year and 0.08208 mm/year, it turns out that the corrosion rate was higher compared to the original object (0.07163 mm/year). From each test object, the form of corrosion was uniform corrosion. Keywords: Annealing, Corrosion Rate, Medium Carbon Steel
