Abstract

The research method used was an experimental method using a conventional milling machine. The independent variables in this study were spindle speeds of 360 rpm, 560 rpm, and 800 rpm, as well as feed depths of 0.75 mm and 1 mm. Testing was conducted on a Dexel head block made of aluminum alloy, while surface roughness measurements were performed using a Mitutoyo SJ-220 Surface Roughness Tester at three measurement points for each specimen, and the average value was then calculated. The results showed that the combination of spindle speed and feed depth affected surface roughness. The lowest roughness value was obtained at a spindle speed of 360 rpm with a feed depth of 0.75 mm, amounting to 2.367 µm. Meanwhile, the highest roughness value was obtained at a spindle speed of 800 rpm with a feed depth of 1 mm, amounting to 5.893 µm. Increasing the feed depth tends to increase the surface roughness value. Increasing spindle speed in this research condition was also accompanied by an increase in surface roughness value. In addition to cutting parameters, cutting temperature is thought to influence surface quality as a secondary factor. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the best parameter combination for producing a smoother Dexel head block surface is a spindle speed of 360 rpm with a feed depth of 0.75 mm. This combination produces a surface quality that is within the standard machining roughness range and can therefore be used as a reference for repairing Dexel head blocks using conventional milling machines. Keywords: Conventional Milling, Spindle Speed, AISI 1020 Steel Depth, Surface Roughness, Dexel Head Block.
