Abstract
Indoor air quality is influenced by airflow circulation and the concentration of fine particulate matter, particularly PM₂.₅. The use of an air purifier is one approach to reducing particulate concentrations; however, its effectiveness may depend on its placement within a room. This study aims to investigate the effect of air purifier placement on airflow patterns, temperature distribution, and PM₂.₅ concentration in a bedroom. The study employs the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) method using ANSYS Fluent software. Four simulation scenarios are considered: a baseline condition without an air purifier, and air purifier placements near the ventilation opening, at the center of the room, and near the exhaust fan. The analyzed parameters include airflow patterns, temperature distribution, PM₂.₅ concentration, and PM₂.₅ reduction efficiency. The simulation results indicate that air purifier placement affects the direction and distribution of airflow within the room, while the variation in temperature is relatively small. The air purifier also reduces PM₂.₅ concentrations across all tested placement configurations. The central placement provides the best result, with a PM₂.₅ concentration of 14.093 µg/m³ and a reduction efficiency of 71.37%. Meanwhile, placement near the exhaust fan results in a concentration of 16.312 µg/m³ and a reduction efficiency of 66.87%, whereas placement near the ventilation opening produces a concentration of 20.169 µg/m³ and a reduction efficiency of 59.03%. Based on these findings, placing the air purifier at the center of the room is the most effective configuration for reducing PM₂.₅ concentration under the simulated conditions investigated in this study. Keywords: air purifier, PM₂.₅, Computational Fluid Dynamics, airflow patterns, bedroom.
