Abstract
ABSTRACT ELVI ROMI SUTANEGARA, The Effect of Competence and Training on Employee Performance Through Career Development as an Intervening Variable at PT Bhanda Ghara Reksa (Persero) Palembang Branch, under the guidance of Prof. Dr. H. Sulbahri Madjir, SE., MM and Mrs. Dr. Tri Suyantiningsih, SE., MM This study aims to determine and prove the influence of competence and training on employee performance through career development as an intervening variable at PT Bhanda Ghara Reksa (Persero) Palembang branch either directly or indirectly. The population used in this study were all employees at PT Bhanda Ghara Reksa (Persero) Palembang Branch, totaling 141 employees. In this study, the researchers used simple random sampling. Calculation of the number of samples using the Slovin formula with a sample size calculation based on an error of 10%, so in this study the number of samples used was 59 people as the research sample. The data analysis used in this research is by using the Structural Equation Model (SEM) analysis method which is operated through the Partial Least Square (PLS) program. The results of this study indicate that, the first hypothesis: Competence (X1) has an effect on Career Development (Y). The result of the P-Value value is 0.000 0.05, so it can be concluded that there is an effect of Competence on Career Development, Training (X2) has an effect on Career Development (Y). The result of the P-Value is 0.000 0.05, so it can be concluded that there is an effect of Training on Career Development, Competence (X1) has an effect on Performance (Z). The result of the P-Value is 0.000 0.05, so it can be concluded that there is an effect of Competence (X1) on Performance, Training (X2) has an effect on Employee Performance (Z). The result of P-Value is 0.007 0.05, so it can be concluded that there is an effect of Training on Performance, Career Development (Y) has an effect on Employee Performance (Z). the results of the P-Value value is 0.000 0.05, so it is concluded that there is an effect of Career Development on Performance, Competence on Performance has an indirect effect on Career Development as a mediating variable or an intermediary variable as evidenced by looking at the table above with the P-Value value is 0.000≤ 0.05, Training on Performance has an indirect effect on Career Development as a mediating variable or an intermediary variable as evidenced by looking at the table above with a P-Value value of 0.001≤ 0.05. The value of R2 for the latent variable of Career Development as a mediating variable is 0.966, which means that this value identifies that variations in Employee Career Development can be explained by exogenous latent variables (Competence and Training) of 96.6% while the remaining 3.4% is explained by other variables and the R2 value for the latent variable Performance is 0.947, which means that this value identifies that the variation in performance can be explained by exogenous variables of 94.7% while the remaining 5.3% is explained by variables not included in the study. From the model built in this study, and from the results of hypothesis testing using Smart-PLS, it can be suggested for employees at PT Bhanda Ghara Reksa (Persero) Palembang Branch, it is recommended to further improve the current performance, especially indicators that are still low ie Employees are able to understand the complexity of the organization. For the Leaders of PT Bhanda Ghara Reksa (Persero) Palembang Branch in order to further improve the Competence and Training and Performance that have been carried out at this time, this needs to be improved and carried out in an effort to improve Competence and Training and Career Development optimally.
