Abstract

The advancement of material handling technology encourages the development of more efficient transportation equipment to improve the effectiveness of goods handling operations. Conventional manual trolleys still require significant human effort, resulting in operator fatigue and reduced work productivity. This study aims to design a DC electric motor-driven goods transportation trolley capable of improving efficiency, safety, and operator comfort during material handling activities. The research method consisted of literature review, field observation, equipment design, prototype fabrication, engineering calculations, and performance testing. The trolley was designed using two DC electric motors with a total power of 764.66 Watts powered by a 36 V 20 Ah battery. The structural analysis indicated that the bending stress of the frame was 155.30 kg/cm², which was lower than the allowable bending stress of 798.77 kg/cm², indicating that the frame was safe to support a maximum load of 100 kg. Performance testing showed that the trolley transported a 100 kg load over a flat 10-meter track in 10 seconds, whereas a manually operated trolley required 22 seconds under the same conditions. Therefore, the DC motor-driven trolley effectively improves material handling efficiency, reduces operator workload, and provides better comfort and productivity compared with conventional manual trolleys.
