Abstract
This study aims to design and manufacture a cube-shaped rice husk briquette molding machine using a screw extrusion system, determine its production capacity, and analyze the effect of hole position variations on the mass and density of the briquettes. The machine was designed using a 1 HP (0.75 kW) AC electric motor, a WPA gearbox with a 1:40 reduction ratio, and a pulley transmission system. The tests were conducted using two hole position variations, namely the center and the upper-right corner, with briquette dimensions of 5 cm × 3.5 cm × 3.5 cm and 7 cm × 3.5 cm × 3.5 cm. The results showed that the machine operated properly and achieved a production capacity of 22.711 kg/h. The hole position significantly affected the mass and density of the briquettes. The highest density was obtained from the briquette measuring 7 cm × 3.5 cm × 3.5 cm with the hole located at the upper-right corner, reaching 1.23 g/cm³ with a mass of 99 g, while the lowest density was obtained from the briquette measuring 5 cm × 3.5 cm × 3.5 cm with the hole located at the center, reaching 1.08 g/cm³. The results indicate that placing the hole at the upper-right corner provides a better pressure distribution during the compaction process, resulting in denser briquettes.
